Multi-Grain Cheerios

At one time in my life, not too long ago, my favorite breakfast was a sweet, colorful heaping bowl full of Lucky Charms. Mmmm! Marshmallowy goodness! Red 40 and Blue 16 down the last drop of charm-infused milk! But eventually, I came to the end of that rainbow, and realized I didn't have dental insurance. So I tried other, vaguely-healthier cereals that were on sale at Safeway.com.

Let me take a moment to give you a brief history of cereal. The word "cereal" comes from Ceres, the goddess of grain. I bet she tasted grrrrrrreat! Then around 1863, the very same year that Abe Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation (what, it's Black History Month,) Americans began eating Granula. Not granola, GranYOUla. From the description I read, it was the precursor to, and highly resembled, Grape-nuts. Americans apparently were trying to find something healthier to eat for breakfast than pigs and sheep. (Remember, they didn't have refrigerators back then!)

In my own search for a healthier breakfast, a frequent sale item was Multi-Grain Cheerios. Apparently, it's America's most healthy, and least purchased Cheerio. Well, I love it. It's lightly sweetened; the perfect middle ground between bland regular Cheerios and too-sweet Honey Nut Cheerios. Plus, it has 100% daily value of 10 vitamins and minerals! It keeps my mind sharp until I can get to work and have a coffee and a sticky bun. Plus, it's made from not one, not two, but *multiple* grains. In it's own way, it is colorful. It comes not in the colors made by man, but in the colors man is made *in*. Browns, yellows, tans, and off-whites. All those different grains, together in one delicious bowl of cereal, is a beautiful thing to behold. Ceres herself would be proud.

I give Multi-Grain Cheerios an overall 9.9 out of 10.
